I just wrapped up 5 days of racing and fun in Smithers, BC, and I am now sitting in my bed on my last free day here. You may be asking, ‘why would you be sitting in your bed on your last day in such a beautiful place?’ Well, I’ve been sick for just about the entire time I’ve been here, go figure! I started to develop a cough on our first day out here and it only escalated from there. By Canadian Nationals yesterday I was racing with a fever, a nasty dry cough and just enough energy to make it through the few heats I had. Nonetheless, I scored 15th and 14th respectfully in the two NorAms and 14th at Canadian Nationals. The fields were stacked with several of Canada’s World Cup royalty coming to race, as well as many athletes with World Cup starts gracing the course. Seeing the competition was extremely stiff, I was more than happy with my finishes. Despite being sick and extremely busy, the town of Smithers played a fantastic host to our races and they took excellent care of us. People here were genuinely excited to have us around and it seemed like half of the town knew who you were by the end of the week! As lovely as my stay here has been, I’m looking forward to going home and getting my health straightened out before our season ender at Copper Mountain, CO on April 10th.
